Week 6 | 4.15.2024

Kasten's 1-out single caps comeback, gives Mets walk-off over Braves

Connor Kasten's single to center drove in Jesse Kenefic with the winning run as the Mets scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 3-2 walk-off win over the Braves Sunday at Heath Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Dan Ventry singled to lead off the seventh inning and scored on Malik Dixon's double to deep center field.  A single by Jesse Kenefic, a walk by Alex Calabrese and a single by Connor Kasten completed the comeback win. 

Winning pitcher: Walker Hill

Losing pitcher: Sabel Del Rosario

Game MVPs: Malik Dixon went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Connor Kasten went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Jesse Kenefic and Dan Ventry each went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Alex Calabrese held the Braves scoreless for five innings. He pitched six innings, gave up five hits and two earned runs. Walker Hill pitched one scoreless inning and picked up the win.

Noble Effort: Dakotah Thomas pitched five scoreless innings, gave up two hits and four walks. He struck out 11. Christian Hodge went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Anthony Miedzinski went 1-for-3 with an RBI. 

Miscellaneous Notes: The Mets improve to 3-0 on the season. The Braves fall to 1-2.

Rockies win walk-fest, remain unbeaten with 16-2 win over Red Sox

Five Red Sox pitchers walked 17 batters to help the Rockies beat the Red Sox, 16-2, Sunday at Heath Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Bill Little, Alden Manning and Kyle Dupas held the Red Sox to four hits and two runs, while five Red Sox pitchers walked 17 batters. 

Winning pitcher: Bill Little

Losing pitcher: Walker Knight

Game MVPs: Coleman Greene went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Grand Pridgen went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Alden Manning went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Brandon Bowden went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Bill Little pitched four innings for the win. He gave up three hits and one run while striking out six.

Noble Effort: Vinny Vitelle went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Josh Edwards went 1-for2. Kaiden Morales and Kade Ciraulo each went 1-for-3.  

Miscellaneous Notes: The Rockies improve to 3-0 on the season. The Red Sox fall to 0-3.

Brewers score six in the fifth inning to come out on top of back-and-forth game with Marlins

Jayson Melendez went 4-for-4, drove in four runs to lead the Brewers to a 16-11 win over the Marlins Sunday at Heath Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Quentin Montemarano, Jayson Melendez and William Flynn each singled and drove in two runs in the top of the fifth inning to give the Brewers the win. 

Winning pitcher: Teddy Cardenas

Losing pitcher: Matthew Cartwright

Game MVPs: Jayson Melendez went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. William Flynn went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Duane Johnson went 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Teddy Cardenas went 1-for-1 with two runs scored.

Noble Effort: Matt Williams went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Xavier Vergerano went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Kelby Brooks went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Nathan Voit went 2-for-4 with four runs scored and an RBI.  

Miscellaneous Notes: The Brewers improve to 2-1 on the season. The Marlins fall to 0-3.

Week 5 | 4.7.2024

Thomas, Morton lead Braves to 9-4 win over Red Sox

Dakotah Thomas gave up one earned run over five innings, and Travis Morton went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs as the Braves topped the Red Sox, 9-4, Sunday at Heath Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Dakotah Thomas struck out nine in five innings and held the Red Sox to five hits. 

Winning pitcher: Dakotah Thomas

Losing pitcher: Vinny Vitelle

Game MVPs: Travis Morning went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Thomas went 2-for-3 with a run scored and picked up the win. Matt Roth pitched two scoreless innings for the save. Nate Johnson went 2-for-3. Christian Hodge, Shawn Ryan and Pablo Hernandez each went 1-for-2.

Noble Effort: Walker Knight went 2-for-3 with a run scored. He also tossed three innings, giving up two hits and two runs. Jonathan Marsh and Neil Coffield each went 1-for-2.

Miscellaneous Notes: Walker Knight held the Braves to one hit and no runs over two innings, but walked three in the third inning and gave up two runs. The Braves move to 1-1 on the season. The Red Sox fall to 0-2.

Dupas, Greene keep Rockies undefeated with 6-5 win over Marlins

Kyle Dupas drove in two runs and Coleman Greene struck out the final two batters of the game with the bases loaded to preserve a 6-5 win over the Marlins Sunday at Heath Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Coleman Greene struck out the final two batters of the game with the bases loaded to earn the save. 

Winning pitcher: Alden Manning

Losing pitcher: Terson Jason Eina

Game MVPs: Kyle Dupas went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Gabe Pierre went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Tiquan Thompson went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Bill Little pitched five innings, giving up seven hits and two earned runs. He struck out seven and walked two.

Noble Effort: Geoff McLawhorn went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Matt Williams went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Kelby Brooks went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. TJ Eina and Nate Voit each went 1-for-3.

Miscellaneous Notes: The Marlins fall to 0-2 on the season. The Rockies improve to 2-0 on the season. Before the game, the team received their 2023 championship trophy. Bill Little received the 2023 MVP and Silver Slugger awards. Adam Amerson, who was not present for probably some lame reason, received the Cy Young award. (When you don't show up, there will be smak.)

3-run third inning gives Mets lead, pitching thwarts Brewers comeback

Four Mets pitchers held the Brewers to seven hits and three earned runs, and the Mets held off a Brewers' seventh-inning rally for a 5-4 win Sunday at Heath Field. 

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Four consecutive singles by Alex Calabrese, Heath Henson, Connor Kasten and Walker Hill scored three, third-inning runs to give them Mets a 4-3 lead.

Winning pitcher: Alex Calabrese

Losing pitcher: Jayson Melendez

Game MVPs: Alex Calabrese went 2-for-4 and pitched four innings, giving up two runs and five hits while striking out six. Heath Henson went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Connor Kasten went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kasten also pitched one scoreless inning. Walker Hill pitched a scoreless inning, striking out three and walking one. Malik Dixon went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three stolen bases. Chris Fletcher went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Noble Effort: Duane Johnson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Shane Hardison went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Kevin Hernandez, Jayson Melendez, Andrew D'Elia and Lemuel Vizcarrondo each went 1-for-3. William Flynn pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Miscellaneous Notes: Both teams left a lot of men on base, with the Mets leaving 13 and the Brewers leaving 10. The Mets improve to 2-0. The Brewers fall to 1-1.

Flynn tosses 1-hitter to lead Brewers over Marlins, 8-0, to start season

William Flynn gave up one hit and struck out 15, and Micah Caroon drove in three runs and Jayson Melendez drove in two as the Brewers coasted to an 8-0 win Sunday at Cutler Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Marlins never got anything going as Flynn held a no-hitter going into the fifth inning. He struck out 15 and walked two while tossing a complete game. 

Winning pitcher: William Flynn

Losing pitcher: Matthew Cartwright

Game MVPs: Micah Caroon went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored. Jayson Melendez went 2-for-3 with a two-run double to the fence and scored one run. Dom Totten went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Noble Effort: Xavier Vergerano went 1-for-3 for the Marlins. 

Miscellaneous Notes: The Brewers started off their franchise history with a win. The team was formally the Yankees, but they wanted to shed some bad mojo and start with a new look and new attitude.

Dupas drives in three, tosses three shutout innings to lead Rockies to 13-3 win over Red Sox

Kyle Dupas went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs, and three pitchers held the Red Sox to three runs as the defending ECABL champion Rockies started the 2024 season with a 13-3 win over the Red Sox Sunday at Cutler Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Leading 4-3 going into the third inning, the Rockies used two errors, two walks and two hits to score four runs and take a commanding lead. 

Winning pitcher: Alden Manning

Losing pitcher: Josh Edwards

Game MVPs: Kyle Dupas went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. He also tossed three innings, gave up one hit and struck out three. Alden Manning went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Brandon Bowden went 1-for 3.

Noble Effort: Kade Ciraulo went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Jonathan Marsh, Matt Curtis and Kaiden Morales went 1-for-3. 

Miscellaneous Notes: The Rockies only had six hits, but took advantage of 13 walks and some Red Sox errors to score 10 unearned runs.

Calabrese tosses shutout, Henson drives in three as Mets mercy Braves, 15-0

Alex Calabrese lost his no-hitter in the fifth inning and finished with a two-hit shutout as the Mets packaged hits around errors to coast to a 15-0 win over the Braves Sunday at Cutler Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Leading 4-3 going into the third inning, the Rockies used two errors, two walks and two hits to score four runs and take a commanding lead. 

Winning pitcher: Alex Calabrese

Losing pitcher: Dakotah Thomas

Game MVPs: Alex Calabrese gave up two hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings. He also went 1-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Heath Henson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Dan Ventry went 1-for-2, and Brandon Milligan and Walker Hill each went 1-for-3.

Noble Effort: Victor Medina went 1-for-2 and Anthony Miedzinski went 1-for-3. Thomas struck out nine in four innings. Five of his seven runs were unearned.

Miscellaneous Notes: A first-inning at-bat in the first inning by Connor Kasten played a bit role in the four-run inning. Kasten ran the count full and then fouled off six pitches before reaching on an error that scored two runs. Longs counts like that through the night forced starter Dakotah Thomas to more than 100 pitches in just four innings. Of Note: I've never seen a pitch over the backstop before Sunday.
