Rockies top Red Sox, 10-1, to advance to championships

Garbarino gets win, Bowden hits 2-run homer

Michael Coombs pitched three shutout innings Sunday to complete a 10-1 win that began last week and was postponed last week due to rain.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Rockies built a 6-1 lead after four innings last week before the rain made field conditions unplayable. Brandon Bowden hit a two run homer, and Sean Garbarino gave up only one run despite eight walks.

Winning pitcher: Sean Garbarino

Losing pitcher: Kaiden Morales

Game MVPs: Sean Garbarino pitched four innings, giving up two hits and one earned run. He struck out eight and walked eight. Michael Coombs pitched three innings, giving up one hit and no runs. He struck out five and walked one. Brandon Bowden went 1-for-1 with three runs scored and two RBI. Bill Little went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Gabe Pierre went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Noble Effort: Matt Curtis and Brian Willis went 1-for-2. Grant Alexander went 1-for-3.

Miscellaneous Notes: The Rockies advance to the championship game against the Brewers at 4 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park.

Brewers come from behind, beat Mets with walk-off RBI-single to advance to championship

Melendez singles in Johnson in seventh

Jayson Melendez singled with no outs in the bottom of the seventh to score Duane Johnson from second base to give the Brewers a 4-3 win over the Mets Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Will Flynn gave up three runs and six hits in the first two innings, but held the Mets to two hits and no runs the rest of the way, as the Brewers mounted a comeback.

Winning pitcher: Will Flynn

Losing pitcher: Alex Calabrese

Game MVPs: Jayson Melendez went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Shane Hardison went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer run. Will Flynn pitched seven innings, giving up eight hits and three runs. He struck out 8 and walked two.

Noble Effort: Malik Dixon went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a solo home run. Eric Jennings went 2-for-3. Gage Bohmuller went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Alex Calabrese went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Mets advance to second round of tournament to face Brewers

Calabrese drives in 4; Dixon, Bohmuller hit homers

Alex Calabrese and Walker Hill held the Marlins to two hits, and Calabrese had four hits and drove in four runs as the Mets coasted past the Marlins, 14-4, in round 1 of the season-ending championship tournament Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: With the Mets winning 4-0, Malik Dixon hit a solo home run over the left centerfield fence. Two batters later, Gage Bohmuller hit a two-run homer deep into the police department parking lot to give the Mets a 7-0 lead.

Winning pitcher: Alex Calabrese

Losing pitcher: Geoff McLawhorn

Game MVPs: Alex Calabrese went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored. He pitched four innings, giving up one hit and one earned run. He struck out four and walked one. Malik Dixon went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Gage Bohmuller went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Eric Jennings went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Noble Effort: Xavier Vergerano went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Jimmie Lee went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Miscellaneous Notes: With the win, the Mets advance to round 2 and will play the Brewers at 4 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park.

Morales, Curtis lead Red Sox to win

The Red Sox managed only one hit on Sunday, but that one hit by Matt Curtis drove in what would turn out to be the winning run in the fifth inning as the Red Sox advanced to the second round of the tournament with a 4-3 win over the Braves at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Kaiden Morales held the Braves to two earned runs over six innings, and the Red Sox took advantage of four crucial errors and three batters hit by pitches to score three unearned runs.

Losing pitcher: Dakotah Thomas

Game MVPs: Matt Curtis went 1-for-3 with an RBI. He also pitched one shutout inning. Kaiden Morales pitched six innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs. He struck out seven and walked three.

Noble Effort: Dakotah Thomas pitched six innings, giving up one hit and one earned run. He struck out 12 and walked one. Travis Morton went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Miscellaneous Notes:: Two of the four Red Sox batters who were hit by pitches ended up scoring. The Red Sox advance to the second round of the tournament and will play the Rockies at 1 p.m. Sunday.
