Big third inning lifts Rockies to win over Red Sox

The Rockies scored seven runs in the third inning, and Bill Little held the Red Sox scoreless until the sixth inning as the Rockies came away with a 13-7 win.

The first seven Rockies' batters reached base in the third inning. Jordan Nobles and Little had RBI singles before Patrick Ball hit a three-run homer to give the Rockies an 8-0 lead. Gage Spires singled in two more to increase the lead to 10-0 after three innings.

Little was cruised through five innings, allowing only two base runners on one hit and one walk, while striking out six. But the Red Sox got to him in the sixth inning. Mike Valentin led off the inning with a walk and was followed by back-to-back singles by Randy Lopez and Matt Forman. Dom Byrnes walked, and Ray Hower and Craig Rosen each singled. After Adam Schock reached on an error, Jacob Lawrence singled and Valentin reached on an error. After the dust settled, the Red Sox had plated seven and cut the Rockies lead to 11-7.

The Rockies tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning and Ball on in relief to slam the door on the Red Sox.

Nobles went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Ball went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Held went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.

Lawrence went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Ray Hower went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Yankees take early lead, cruise to win over Braves

Andrew DElia and Jayson Melendez each drove in two runs, and Dan Thompson held the Braves to three earned runs over six innings to lead the Yankees to a 10-6 over the Braves Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Yankees took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on two walks, a hit and an error, and they added runs in the third and the fourth to take a 5-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

The Braves cut the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Pablo Hernandez drove in a run with a double and scored on an error.

The Yankees added five more in the fifth. After two hit batters and a walk, Chris Griffin had an RBI-single and DElia drive in two with a double. After a run scored on an error, Thompson singled in a run. The Braves added runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and they tacked on two in the seventh, but they couldn't overcome the early deficit.

DElia went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Melendez went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored, and Griffin went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Alberto Sosa went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and A.J. Ryan and Pablo Hernandez each went 2-for-3.

Orioles pummel Cubs

The Orioles scored 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back as they pummeled the Cubs, 32-2, Sunday at Kafer Park.

Austin Zehr led off the game with a walk, and from there it only got more brutal. Look at the box score to the right and let your imagination run wild.

Win guarantees Rockies first place finish in ECABL standings

Bill Little drove in five runs and the Rockies' offense pounded out 17 hits to crush the Yankees, 14-3, Sunday at Kafer Park.

With a two game lead over the second-place Orioles, and with the Rockies holding the tie-breaker head-to-head advantage, the Rockies are guaranteed to finish in first place at the end of the season.

The Yankees jumped out to a 10- lead in the top of the first when Cameron McSorley singled and later scored on a single by Micah Caroon,

The Rockies took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Sam Ward led off with a single. After Kyle Dupas and Jordan Nobles drew walks, Little hit a grand slam, his fifth home run of the season.

The Rockies added three in the second inning, one in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth. The big blows were two-run homers by Ward in the fifth and Brandon Bowden in the sixth.

The Yankees tacked on two run in the seventh on a two-run homer by Jayson Melendez, his fourth of the season.

Sean Garbarino went 3-for-4 with a run scored an an RBI and Little went 2-for-4 with five RBI and a run scored to lead the Rockies. Dupas went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Ward went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Melendez went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Yankees offense. Andrew E'Elial went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Little pitched a complete game, giving up six hits and three earned runs. He struck out 12 and walked one.

Red Sox and Cubs battle back and forth to
10-10, extra-inning tie

Justin Honda drove in four runs for the Cubs and Matt Wilson drove in four runs for the Red Sox as the two teams battled back and forth with the final score being a 10-10 tie.

The Red Sox scored four runs in the first two innings, and it looked as though the Cubs were heading for their 13th loss of the season, but the Cubs scored three in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead.

Michael Parziale and Kade Ciraulo had RBI-singles in the fourth inning, and Tomas Hernandez hit an RBI-double. In the sixth inning, Honda drove in two with a double and Bryce Barrow singled in a run.

The Red Sox tied the score in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Wilson.

The Cubs looked as if they were heading for a win after scoring four runs in the top of the eighth inning on two, two-run homers by Honda and Ciraulo, but the Red Sox tied the score in the bottom of the eighth on RBI-singles by Randy Lopez and Adam Schoch and a two-run double by Wilson.

The game ended due to time limit.

Brown hits two homers, drives in 8 as Orioles top Braves 16-9

Gabriel Brown hit two home runs, drove in eight and scored three as the Orioles out-slugged the Braves, 16-9, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Braves scored four in the top of the first inning. After Jesse Small led off the game with a solo home run, Tanner Brown singled, Pablo Hernandez walked and Shawn Ryan reached on an error. All three later scored on an error and a ground out.

The Orioles scored one in the first inning, but took the lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI-single by Ricky Henries and a three-run homer by Brown.

The Orioles added five in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk to Henries and a grand slam by Brown.

The Braves cut the lead to four, 10-6, in the top of the fourth inning, but The Orioles added four in the bottom of the fourth inning and two in the bottom of the fifth. The Braves answered with three in top of the sixth inning, but it was too little, too late.

Brown led the Orioles offense, going 3-for-4 with eight RBI and three runs scored. Henries went 2-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored. Randy Mason, Trey Elks and Jamie Byers each had two hits.

Small went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Braves. Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored and Brown went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Orioles, 10-3, will host the Cubs, 0-12-1, at 1 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Braves, 4-9, will host the Yankees, 7-6, at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park.

Brooks' complete game, Mills' HR propel Orioles past Yankees

Hatteras Brooks pitched a complete game and struck out 11, and Parker Mills hit a two-run homer as the Orioles beat the Yankees, 9-3, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Orioles scored a run in the first and a run in the second before the Yankees tied the score at 2 in the fourth inning.

The Orioles broke the game open in the fifth inning with five runs. Trey Elks lead off with a walk and Austin Zehr doubled. Both scored on a double by Ricky Henries, and Henries scored in a single by Brooks. Mills reached on an error and Gabirel Brown singled. Mills and Brown scored on a single by Kevin Vanzandt.

The Orioles added two runs on Mills' two-run homer in the sixth inning. The Yankees added a run in the seventh on a solo home run by Jayson Melendez.

Brooks went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a runs scored to lead the Orioles. Jamie Byers went 2-for-4 and Vanzandt went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Ryan Foreman went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Yankees. Melendez went 1-for-3 with a home run, and Curtis Hall went 1-for-2.

The Yankees, 7-5, visit the Rockies, 11-1, at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Orioles, 9-3, host the Braves at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Little holds Cubs to two runs, Vick drives in two as Rockies top Cubs

Bill Little gave up two runs over four innings as the Rockies topped the Cubs, 8-2, Sunday in a rain-shortened game.

The Rockies held a 1-0 lead through three innings when they used four walks, an error and two hits to score five runs, which was all they would need for the win. Sam Ward led off the inning with a single, and Jordan Nobles and Little walked. Brandon Bowden reached on an error and Tyler Held Walked. With two runs already plated, Vick singled in two runs to score Bowden and Held. Vick later came around to score.

The Cubs scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jorge Gutierrez walked, Kade Cirulo was hit by a pitch and Zach Scudder walked. Gutierrez and Cirulo scored on a single by Michael Parziale.

The Rockies scored two more in the fifth inning before the game was called due to weather.

Vick was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored for the Rockies. Avery Brunni went 1-for-2 and Ward went 1-for-3.

Parziale went 2-for-2 for the Cubs. Scudder went 1-for-1 and Kenny Hoffman went 1-for-2.

Stuff happened. Some players hit the ball. Some players fielded the ball. I'd bet there were some walks, and possibly some errors.

Some players likely whined like babies over calls they didn't get.

Coffield's grand slam leads Red Sox past Yankees

Neil Coffield hit a grand slam and Adam Schoch held the Yankees to five runs as the Red Sox topped the Yankees, 10-5, Sunday at Kafer Park.

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth inning, Matt Forman lead off by reaching on an error. Schoch and Dom Byrnes followed with singles and Jacob Lawrence walked to score Forman. Coffield then launched his grand slam to give the Red Sox a 6-3 lead.

The Yankees jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Cameron McSorley and Noah Caroon each singled and scored on Jayson Melendez's three-run homer.

Randy Lopez went 4-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the Red Sox offense. Byrnes and Eddie Shin went 2-for-3, and Coffield went 1-for-3 with four RBI.

Melendez went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored to pace the Yankees. Caroon and McSorely each went 2-for-3.

Small, Brown lead Braves offense to 19-7 win over Cubs

Jesse Small went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Tanner Brown went 2-for-3 with three runs scored to lead the Braves to a 19-7 win over the Cubs on Sunday.

Each team scored a run in the first inning. The Cubs added three runs in the second and the Braves added four to take a 5-4 lead after two innings.

The Braves tacked on four runs in the third inning and broke the game open in the fourth inning with eight runs to take a 16-4 lead.

Small went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI to lead the Braves offense. Brown went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI, and Pablo Hernandez and Wayne Brown went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Kenneth Hoffman, Tomas Hernandez and Michael Parziale each went 2-for-3 to lead the Cubs' offense.

The Braves, 3-8 on the season, visit the Red Sox at 4 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Cubs, 0-11, host the Rockies, 10-1, at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park.

Rockies win by forfeit, take tight grip on first place

The Rockies won by forfeit because the Orioles could not field a team. Had the Orioles played and won, they would hold first place. With the forfeit, the Orioles are now two games out of first place, and the Rockies all but lock down first place.

For the Rockies to fall from first place, the Rockies would have to lose three of their remaining four games in the season, and the Orioles would have to win all four.

Ward, Little power Rockies past Braves

Sam Ward and Bill Little each hit two-run homers in the seventh inning to lift the Rockies to a 7-1 win over the Braves Sunday at Kafer Park.

With the Rockies leading 3-1 going into the seventh, Jordan Nobles was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Ward followed with a home run to right field. After Kyle Dupas walked and Patrick Ball grounded into a fielder's choice, Little hit a one-out, two-run homer to right field.

Little held the Braves to three hits and one earned run over five innings on the mound. He struck out eight and walked three. Ward pitched the final two innings, giving up one hit while striking out four.

The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but the Braves tied the score at 1 in the bottom of the fourth. The Rockies scored two in the top of the fifth inning.

Ward went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored to lead the Rockies. Little went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and Sean Garbarino went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Shawn Ryan went 1-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Braves. Jesse Small, Brandon Braxton and Rob Fravor each went 1-for-3.

The Rockies improve to 9-1 and remain in first place in the East Carolina Amateur Baseball League. They host the Orioles at 4 p.m. on June 5. There are no games this Sunday because of the Memorial Day holiday. The Braves fall to 2-8. They visit the Cubs at 7 p.m. on June 5.

Brooks shuts out Red Sox

Hatteras Brooks tossed a shutout and struck out 11 as the Orioles topped the Red Sox, 30-, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Orioles got on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brooks and Gabriel Brown each drew one-out walks. Brooks scored on a wild pitch and Brown scored on a sacrifice fly by J.P. Whitford.

The Orioles added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ricky Henries was hit by a pitch, he stole second, he moved to third on a bunt by Jamie Byers and he scored on an error.

Brooks has given up one earned run in his past 14 innings while striking out 22 batters.

The Orioles won despite only having two hits in the game, and neither hit was involved in any scoring. Henries was 1-for-1 with a run scored to lead the Orioles' offense. Randy Mason was 1-for-3.

Craig Rosen, Matt Forman, Adam Schoch, Ross Klosheim and Lucas Pumphrey each went 1-for-2 for the Red Sox.

The Orioles improve to 8-2 and visit the Rockies at 4 p.m. June 5. There are no games this Sunday because of the Memorial Day holiday. The Red Sox fall to 4-6. They host the Yankees at 1 p.m. on June 5.

Melendez hits first-inning grand slam, Yankees get 21 hits in win over Cubs

Jayson Melendez hit a first inning grand slam and drove in seven for the game as the Yankees pounded the Cubs 28-4 Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Yankees scored 13-first inning runs to put the game on ice before it ever really got started, and it was 19-0 by the third inning.

Ryan Foreman pitched five shutout innings to pick up the win. He gave up one hit and one walk while striking out nine.

Melendez went 4-for-4 with seven RBI and three runs scored. Dan Thompson was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and one RBI.

Juston Honda went 1-for2 for the Cubs to break up a no-hitter.

The Yankees improve to 7-3. They visit the Red Sox at 1 p.m. June 5. There are no games this Sunday because of the Memorial Day holiday. The Cubs fall to 0-10. They host the Braves at 7 p.m. June 5.

Big first inning leads Yankees over Braves, 9-5

The Yankees took advantage of 15 walks and timely hits to top the Braves, 9-5, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Yankees jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Noah Caroon walked to lead off the game and Ryan Foreman followed with a single. Micah Caroon walked to load the bases, and Jayson Melendez drove in two runs with a double to left field. Chris Griffin singled in a run and Andrew D'Elia followed with a walk. Curtis Hall doubled in two runs to make it 5-0.

The Yankees tacked on a run in the second inning to take a 6-0, but the Braves cut the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Shawn Ryan singled and scored on a double by Jesse Small. Small then scored on a sacrifice fly. The Braves had an opportunity to score more, but left he bases load.

The Yankees added two runs in the third inning on three walks, an error and a single by Stephen Billings. The Braves added a run in the bottom of the third on a home run by Ryan. They again had a chance of scoring more, but left the bases loaded for a second consecutive inning.

The Yankees added a run in the fifth, and the Braves added runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Melendez was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI to lead the Yankees. Curtis Hall went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Ryan led the Braves, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Brandon Braxton went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Tanner Brown went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Yankees improve to 6-3 on the season. They will visit the Cubs at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Braves fall to 2-7. They host the Rockies at 1 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park.

Brooks strikes out 11 as Orioles dominate Cubs, 7-1

Hatteras Brooks held the Cubs to two hits over seven innings and struck out 11 to lead the Orioles to a 7-1, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Cubs struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Cletus Jackson lead off the game with a double and scored two batters later on a double by Zach Scudder.

The Orioles tied the game in the bottom of the second inning. Gabriel Brown reached on an error and stole second and third base. J.P. Whitford walked and Brown scored on a single by Stephen Sawyer.

The Orioles took a 4-1 lead in the third inning. Austin Zehr singled to lead off the inning and later scored on an error. Brandon Cherry reached on a dropped third strike, but was later thrown at home when Randy Mason singled to right. After Hatteras Brooks reached on an error, Mason scored on Brown's single, and Brooks scored on a sacrifice fly by Whitford.

The Orioles added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to complete the scoring. Brooks threw 79 total pitches in the game -- 62 strikes and 17 balls. After giving up two hits in the first three batters, only one batter reached base the rest of the game -- on an error in the third inning.

Zehr and Brown went 2-for-4 to lead the Orioles' offense.

Jackson and Scudder went each went 1-for-3 to lead the Cubs.

The Orioles improve to 7-2 with their seventh consecutive win. They will host the Red Sox at 4 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Cubs fall to 0-9. They will host the Yankees at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park.

Rockies come from behind with big sixth inning

The Rockies scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come from behind to beat the Red Sox., 10-4, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Red Sox took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Ray Hower led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a single by Matt Forman. After a double play, Hower scored on a single by Matt Wilson. Two more runs scored after four consecutive walks to Adam Schoch, Ross Klosheim, Zach Deck and Mike Valentin and a hit by pitch by Jacob Lawrence.

The Rockies scored in the bottom of the second when Landon Vick singled and Gage Spires delivered an RBI-single.

The Rockies cut the lead to 1 after back-to-back, two-out solo homers by Sam Ward and Kyle Dupas.

The Rockies took control in the sixth inning. Ward stretched a short fly ball to right into a double, called safe on a close play at second. The Rockies then put together five consecutive singles by Dupas, Sean Garbarino, Patrick Ball, Brandon Bowden and Tyler Held. Landon Vick then drove in two with a double, and Jordan Nobles hit a two-run homer down the line in right field.

Dupas was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Ward, Garbarino and Vick were 2-for-3.

Schoch was 1-for-2 with a run scored to lead the Red Sox. Forman, Dom Byrnes and Wilson were each 1-foir-3.

The Rockies improve to 8-1. They visit the Braves at 1 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Red Sox fall to 4-5. They visit the Orioles at 4 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park.

Two-out rally leads Red Sox over Braves

Michael Valentin hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Red Sox came from behind to beat the Braves Saturday at Kafer Park.

After the Braves took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning, the Red Sox rallied. It looked like the Braves would cruise through the sixth inning after getting the first two Red Sox batters to pop out and ground out to the shortstop. But three consecutive infield singles to the hole at shortstop by Adam Schoch, Neil Coffield and Jacob Lawrence set the table for Valentin's two-out single to right field. The Red Sox padded the lead with singles by Eddie Shin, Matt Wilson and Matt Forman and a couple of Braves' errors to take a 9-3 lead.

The Braves could get nothing going offensively as the Red Sox limited the Braves to one hit -- a double by Tanner Brown.

Schoch went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Valentin was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored and Forman went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Red Sox.

Schoch pitched the final four innings to pick up the win. He gave up one hit and no earned runs while striking out six.

Mills clubs 3 home runs, drives in 7 to move Orioles into second place

Parker Mills hit three home runs and drove in seven runs to help the Orioles take sole possession of second place with a 13-5 win over the Braves Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Orioles struck for six runs in the first inning behind Mills' first home run -- a three-run shot -- and a two-run homer by J.P. Whitford.

The Orioles tacked on two more runs in the third inning on Mill's second home run -- a two-run shot, and they added four more in the fourth inning on RBI-singles by Mills and Brock Rouse and a sacrifice fly by Austin Zehr.

The Braves added two runs in the fourth inning on consecutive one-out singles by Brandon Braxton, Travis Morton and Pablo Hernandez, followed by a walk and an error. They added three runs in the fifth inning. Tanner Brown singled, stole second and scored on a single by Jesse Small. Following walks to A.J. Ryan and Brandon Braxton Morton singled to drive in two.

Mills capped the scoring with a solo home run in the seventh inning.

Mills finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored and seven RBI. Whitford was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI and Jamie Byers was 1-for-1 with a run scored.

Mills pitched two innings, gave up one hit and struck out four for the win.

Braxton and Morton went 2-for-3 to lead the Braves offense. Small was 2-for-4 and Brown was 1-for-3.

Since starting 0-2, the Orioles have reeled off six consecutive wins to move into second place in the East Carolina Amateur Baseball League standings at 6-2. They visit the Cubs at 4 p.m. May 15 at Kafer Park. There are no games this Sunday due to Mother's Day. The Braves, 2-5, will host the Red Sox at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kafer Park. This is a make-up game that was postponed due to weather during Week 2 of the season.

Ward no-hits Yankees for 5 innings; Rockies stay in first with shutout of Yankees

Sam Ward tossed five no-hit innings and two other pitchers combined to shut out the Yankees, 7-0, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Rockies took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sam Ward reached on an error, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Patrick Ball. Bill Little singled and both Ball and Little scored on a single by Jordan Nobles.

The Rockies added a run in the second on singles by Gage Spires and Avery Brunni, and a run in the fourth inning on an RBI-single by Ward.

Ward pitched five no-hit, shutout innings. He gave three walks and struck out seven. Little and Ball pitched the final two innings.

Spires went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Ball and Ward went 2-for-4.

The Yankees couldn't put anything together on offense. Teddy Cardenas went 1-for-2 and Jack Wu went 1-for-1.

Schoch, Valentin each drive in 3 as Red Sox use big innings to top Cubs, 21-7

Adam Schoch and Mike Valentin each drove in three runs to help the Red Sox to a 21-7 win over the Cubs Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Cubs jumped out to a first-inning lead. Michael Alcala reached on an error and Zach Scudder hit a two-run homer to get the Cubs on the board. Kade Ciraulo walked, Tomas Hernandez singled and Justin Honda reached on an error. Geoffrey Weston, Matt Hesse and Machael Parziale each had run-scoring hits to give the Cubs a 6-0 lead.

The Red Sox scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning on a walk, three errors and a single by Craig Rosen.

The Red Sox added a run in the second inning and five in the third inning, highlighted by RBI-singles by Schoch NS Lucas Pumphrey.

The Cubs added a run in the fourth inning, but the Red Sox put the game on ice with seven in the bottom of the fourth inning and four in the sixth inning.

Schoch was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Neil Coffield was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI and Valentin was 1-for-2 with a run scored and three RBI.

The Red Sox improved to 3-4 with and visit the Braves at 1 p.m. Saturday. This is a make-up game that was postponed due to weather during Week 2 of the season. The Cubs, 0-8, will host the Orioles at 4 p.m. May 15. There are no games this Sunday due to Mother's Day.

19 hits power Rockies to easy win over Cubs

Kyle Dupas went 5-for-5, and the Rockies pounded out 19 hits on their way to a 17-6 win over the Cubs Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Rockies jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Sam Ward led off the game with a walk and stole second base. Dupas followed with an RBI-double, and scored on a single by Jordan Nobles. Nobles and Landon Vick scored on a two-run single by Brandon Bowden.

The Cubs cut the lead in half in the second inning. Geoffrey Weston singled, and Nathan Johnson reached on an error. Both scored later in the inning on another error to make the score 4-2.

But the Rockies scored three in the second inning and four in the third inning to take a commanding 11-2 lead.

The Cubs put some hits together in the four inning, leading to three runs. Cletus Jackson, Kenneth Hoffman and Tomas Hernandez lead off the inning with singles. Jackson scored on a ground out by Weston, Hoffman scored on an error, and Hernandez scored on a single by Michael Parziale.

The Rockies added three more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth, while the Cubs added a final run in the fourth.

Avery Brunni gave up three earned runs over five innings. Sam Ward and Bill Little each pitched a scoreless inning.

Dupas led the Rockies offense, going 5-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. John Wheatley went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Jackson and Bryce Barrow went 2-for-3 for the Cubs.

The Rockies improved to 6-1 on the season and will visit the Yankees at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Kafer Park. The Cubs, 0-7, visit the Red Sox at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Brooks' 3-run homer leads Orioles over Yankees; both teams now tied for second place

Hatteras Brooks hit a first-inning, three-run homer, and held the Yankees to two hits over four shutout innings as the Orioles cruised past the Yankees, 7-2, Sunday at Kafer Park.

Matthew Weaver drew a one-out walk in the first inning, and Chris Drake was hit by a pitch. Brooks lined a three-run homer to left to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead. The next batter, Gabriel Brown, then homered to right center to give the Orioles a 4-0 lead.

The Orioles added runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-0 lead before the Yankees scored two in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Micah Caroon.

Brooks went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI to lead the Orioles offense. Brown went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Brooks picked up the win by tossing four shutout innings. He gave up two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Ryan Foreman went 2-for-2 with a run scored to lead the Yankees. Jayson Melendez, Dominick Totten and Caroon each went 1-for 3.

The Orioles and Yankees are not tied for second place in the East Carolina Amateur Baseball League standings at 5-2. The Orioles visit the Braves at 1 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Yankees host the Rockies at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Red Sox 17 hits lead to easy win over Braves

Matt Forman went 4-for-5 and drove in five runs to help the Red Sox pummel the Braves Sunday.

The Red Sox scored a run in the first inning, but the Braves took the lead in the bottom of the first. Tanner Brown led off with a single, and Patrick Pipkin was hit by a pitch. Brown scored on a ground out by Shawn Ryan, and Pipkin scored on a single by Brandon Braxton.

The Red Sox added three runs in the second inning on a few walks and three singles by Ray Hower, Ross Klosheirn and Forman. They added four runs in the third inning on several walks and Braves errors and a hit by Eddie Shin.

The Red Sox added a run in the fourth, 11 runs in the fifth and six in the sixth inning.

Forman led the Red Sox offense, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and a run scored. Randy Lopez was 2-for-3 with four runs scored and an RBI. Klosheim was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Klosheim pitched three innings, giving up two hits, two runs and a walk while striking out three.

The Red Sox, 2-4, host the Cubs at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Braves, 2-4, host the Orioles at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Braves top Cubs, 23-5

Shawn Ryan went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs, and Wayne Brown drove in four runs on three hits as the Braves topped the Cubs, 23-5, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Braves jumped out to an eight-run lead in the top of the first inning. Tanner Brown lead off the game with a single, and Jesse Small and Patrick Pipkin followed with walks. Ryan was hit by a pitch to score Tanner Brown, and Brandon Braxton singled to score three runs. Rick Castro, Alberto Sosa and Brown singled to help the Braves plate another four runs.

The Cubs answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. Kenneth Hoffman singled and was followed with three consecutive walks and a sacrifice fly by Tomas Hernandez.

The Braves then added a run in the second, a run in the third and two in the fifth before breaking the game open in the sixth with 10 runs in the sixth.

The Cubs added two in the third and one in the seventh.

Ryan lead the Braves offense, going 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored. Braxton went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored. Wayne Brown went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored, and Gleason went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored.

Kenneth Hoffman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the Cubs. Kade Ciraulo went 1-for-1 and Matthew Hesse went 1-for-2.

The Braves, 2-3, will host the Red Sox, 1-4, at 7 p.m. April 24 at Kafer Park. There are no games this Sunday due to the Easter holiday. The Cubs, 0-6, will visit the Rockies, 5-1, at 1 p.m. April 24.

Yankees beat Red Sox on McSorley walk-off homer

Cameron McSorley hit a walk-off, two-run homer to lead the Yankees over the Red Sox, 6-4, Sunday at Kafer Park.

After the Red Sox tied the score at 4 with two in the top of the seventh inning, Noah Caroon was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the seventh. McSorley worked a full count before driving the ball over the left field fence for the 6-4 win.

The teams traded the leads in the first and third innings. The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the first when Randy Lopez tripled to lead off the game and scored on an error. The Yankees came back with the run in the bottom of the inning when McSorley doubled and scored on Ryan Foreman's single.

The Red Sox added a run in the third inning when Matt Forman walked, stole second and scored on Neil Coffield's RBI-double.

The Yankees answered in the bottom of the inning. Dan Thompson walked and Mason Head singled. Thompson scored on an errant pick-off attempt.

The Yankees added runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-2 lead, but the Red Sox tied the score in the seventh on doubles by Craig Rosen and Ross Klosheim and a single by Matt Wilson.

McSorley went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored to lead the Yankees. Head went 1-for-2 and Quentin Montemarano went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Coffield went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Red Sox. Lopez, Rosen, Wilson, Klosheim, Adam Schoch and Eddie Shin each went 1-for-3.

The Red Sox, 1-4, visit the Braves, 2-3, at 7 p.m. April 24. There are no games this Sunday due to the Easter holiday. The Yankees, 5-1, move into a first-place tie with the Rockies in the ECABL standings. They will host the Orioles, 4-2, at 4 p.m. April 24.

Mason, Rouse HRs lead rout of Rockies

Randy Mason drove in five runs and Brock Rouse drove in three as the Orioles hand the Rockies their first defeat of the season, 19-9, Sunday at Kafer Park.

Bill Little gave the Rockies a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, with a two-run homer to left field. But the Orioles answered with three in the bottom of the first and six in the bottom of the second, with the big blow being a three-run homer by Mason to take a commanding 9-2 lead.

The Rockies made it 9-7 in the top of the third inning, when Little hit his second homer of the game, a three-run blast.

The Orioles took an 11-7 lead in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Rouse.

After the Rockies scored a run in the top of the sixth inning, the Orioles followed with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth on five walks and singles by Gabriel Brown, J.P. Whitford, Austin Zehr, Brandon Cherry and Rouse.

Hatteras Brooks pitched a complete game for the Orioles, giving up nine hits, eight earned runs and five walks. He struck out 10.

Ball, Little power Rockies past Braves

Bill Little hit a three-run homer and Patrick Ball hit a two-run homer, and Landon Vick held the Braves to two runs over four innings to lead the Rockies to a 13-2 win over the Braves Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Jesse Small. But the Rockies came back with three runs in the bottom of the first on doubles by Sam Ward and Sean Garbarino and singles by Tyler Held and Kyle Dupas.

Ball made it 5-1 in the bottom of the second with a two-run blast.

After the Braves added a run in the third inning, the Rockies added three in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and two in the sixth, capped off by Little's two-run shot.

Vick gave up three hits over four innings. He gave up two runs and one walk while striking out three.

Ward went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Little went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored and Garbarino went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI to lead the Rockies.

Jesse Small went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Braves. Doug Amerson broke his homemade bat on a pitch by Sam Ward.

"Dadgumit, Sam broke my bat," a clearly distraught Amerson said in a late-night phone call relating the actions of the game. "It curved on me a little and I hit if off the handle," he continued, not giving much respect to his swing or the pitch.

The Rockies, 5-0, visit the Orioles at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Braves, 1-3, visit the Cubs at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Brooks, Mills, Brown slug homers to lead Orioles past Red Sox, 13-5

Hatteras Brooks, Parker Mills and Gabriel Brown each hit home runs, and three Orioles pitchers held the Red Sox to six hits as the Orioles topped the Red Sox, 13-5, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Orioles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning when Brandon Cherry lead off with a walk. Brooks reached when he was hit by a pitch, and Cherry scored on Mills's double. After Brown walked and Brock Rouse popped out, Ricky Henries drove in Brooks and Mills with a single, and Brown scored on a walk to J.P. Whitford.

The Orioles added three more in the second inning on back-to-back solo home runs by Brook and Mills, and a run on a walk, a hit by pitch and a single by Rouse.

The Orioles added two more runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to round out their scoring.

The Red Sox added a run in the third inning on an RBI-single by Jacob Lawrence, a run in the fifth on an RBI-double by Dom Byrnes, and two in the seventh on a walk, a hit by pitch and couple of errors.

Mills went 3-fior-3 with three runs scored and three RBI to lead the Orioles' offense. Brooks went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, and Brown went 1-for-1 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Yankees pile up 16 hits to top the Cubs

Chris Griffin drove in four runs and Cameron McSorley drove in two and scored two as the Yankees went on to beat the Cubs, 16-9, despite Cubs home runs to make the game close at the end.

Rockies score 11 early, hold on for 15-10 win over Red Sox

Sam Ward drove in three runs and scored four, and Brandon Bowden drove in three runs as the Rockies remained undefeated with a 15-10 win over the Red Sox Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Rockies scored two runs in the top of the first inning and nine in the second, highlighted by six walks, a hit by pitch, a three-run double by Bowden, a two-run double by Ward and an RBI-double by Landon Vick.

The Rockies added three more runs in the third inning and one more in the sixth.

The Red Sox appears out of the game, but slowly chipped away at the lead, scoring five runs in the second inning, two in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Eddie Shin went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and Craig Rosen hit a two-run homer to lead the Red Sox offense. Zach Deck went 1-for1 and Dom Byrnes went 1-for-2.

Kyle Dupas, Sean Garbarino, Vick and Taylor Ellis went 1-for-2.

The Rockies improved to 4-0 on the season. They will host the Braves at 4 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Red Sox fall to 1-2 on the season and will visit the Orioles at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park.

Yankees score three in first inning, take advantage of errors to coast to 8-3 win over Braves

Three Yankees pitchers held the Braves to three runs, and Cameron McSorley went 3-for-3 and scored two runs as the Yankees topped the Braves, 8-3, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Yankees took a first-inning lead, taking advantage of three walks and two errors to score three runs.

The Braves closed the gap in the third inning, scoring two runs on an RBI-single by Doug Amerson and a sacrifice fly by Tanner Brown.

The Yankees added two runs in the fifth inning on a double by McSorley and RBi-singles by Mason Head and Steve Billings. They added two more runs in the sixth inning on a single by Dom Totten, an error and three walks.

Jayson Melendez pitched three innings and picked up the win, giving up three hits and two runs. He struck out one and walked three. Teddy Cardenas pitched one scoreless inning, and Ryan Foreman pitched the final two innings to pick up the save.

McSorley went 3-for-3 and Totten went 2-for-2 to lead the Yankees offense. Head, Billings and Jack Wu all went 1-for-2 and had one RBI.

Brandon Braxton went 2-for-2 with a double and a single. Amerson went 1-for-2 with an RBI-single.

Orioles throw five pitchers, score 14 in win over Cubs

Five Orioles pitchers held the Cubs to two runs, and Brandon Cherry and Randy Mason each drove in three runs to lead the Orioles to a 14-2 win Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Orioles jumped out to a 10-0 lead after two innings, taking advantage of seven walks, five hit by pitches and a two-run single by Randy Mason.

The Orioles added two in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning. Brock Rouse and Mason led off the sixth inning with walks. J.P. Whitford singled in Rouse, and Mason scored on a ground out by Ricky Henries.

Rouse pitched two scoreless innings, striking out five to pick up the win. Parker Mills, Whitford and Mason each pitched an inning of relief. Henries pitched the final two scoreless innings.

Cherry went 1-for-1 with three RBI and two runs scored, Mason went 1-for-1 with three RBI and one run scored and Rouse went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Orioles.

The Cubs scored a run in the fourth inning. Cletus Jackson walked, stole second and scored after back-to-back ground outs.

The Cubs scored their final run in the fifth inning on two walks and two hit by pitches.

Jackson went 1-for-2, and Jorge Gutierrez and Nathan Johnson went 1-for-1 to lead the Cubs offense.

Red Sox jump out to early lead, hold on to beat Cubs

Randy Lopez stole five bases and scored three runs, and Adam Schoch pitched 2 2/3 innings of no-hit relief as the Red Sox held on to beat the Cubs, 10-6, Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Red Sox took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI-double by Matt Wilson, an RBI-fielder's choice by Adam Schoch and an RBI-single by Matt Forman.

The Cubs came back in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs on two hits, a walk and three hit batters. After Adrian Perez drew a one-out walk, Geoffrey Weston singled. Zach Scudder Tomas Hernandez and Bryce Barrow each ready base when hit by pitches. Kenny Hoffman drove in two runs with a single to take a 4-3 lead.

The Red Sox added one in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth, two more in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 10-4 lead.

The Cubs put two runners on base in the sixth, but failed to score, and they scored two in the seventh and had the bases loaded before Schoch, who pitched the fourth and fifth innings, returned in the seventh inning to get the final two outs and preserve the win.

Lopez went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Wilson went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Red Sox.

Hoffman went 1-for-2 with three RBI, and Adrian Perez went 1-for-2 with two runs scored to lead the Cubs offense.

Brooks strikes out 11 as Orioles club Braves, 11-3

Hatteras Brooks held the Braves to two hits over five innings, while striking out 11 as the Orioles cruised to an 11-3 win Sunday at Kafer Park.

The Orioles loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning, on back-to-back singles by Chris Drake and Austin Zehr, and back-to-back walks by Gabriel Brown and Stephen Sawyer.

The Orioles tacked on another run in the third inning, but broke the game open in the fifth, scoring four runs on singles by Brandon Cherry, Drake, Brooks, Brown and a "triple" by Zehr.

With a 6-0 lead, the Orioles added five more in the sixth inning on singles by Drake and J.P. Whitford and doubles by Cherry and Brown.

The Braves added three runs in the top of the seventh inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Alberto Sosa.

Brooks cruised through five innings, giving up two hits, striking out 11 and walking one. Kevin Vandandt pitched the final two innings, giving up four hits and three runs -- all unearned.

Shawn Ryan held the Orioles to two runs on three hits over four innings while picking up the loss. He struck out six and walked four.

The Braves, 1-1, will host the Yankees at 4 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Orioles, 1-2, will host the Cubs Sunday at 7 p.m.

Ward, Bowden power Rockies; Little quiets Yankees bats

Sam Ward hits a solo home run to lead off the game, Brandon Bowden hit a two-run shot in the sixth inning, and Bill Little held the Yankees hitless over six innings as the Rockies shutout the Yankees, 8-0, Sunday night at Kafer Park.

After throwing a five-hit shutout over the Orioles in Week 1, Little picked up his second win of the season, pitching six innings, giving up no hits and three walks while striking out 10. For the season, Little has tossed 13 shutout innings, given up five hits, three walks and 20 strikeouts.

With the Rockies leading 1-0 in the third, Ward hits a two-out double and scored on a double by Patrick Ball. Ball then scored on an error.

The Rockies tacked on three fifth on singles by Ward, Ball, Gage Spires and a couple of costly Yankees errors. The Rockies capped off their scoring in the sixth inning when Bowden hit a towering home run to left center.

Ward was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Ball was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored to lead the Rockies.

Ryan Foreman went 1-for-3 and Cameron McSorley went 1-for-2 to lead the Yankees offense.

The Rockies, 3-0, will visit the Red Sox at 1 p.m. Sunday at Kafer Park. The Yankees, 2-1, will visit the Braves at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Rockies score 18 in first, cruise to big win

The Rockies scored 18 runs in the first inning, and Avery Brunni and Brandon Bowden held the Cubs to one run Saturday in a game that ended after five innings due to the league time limit.

Kyle Dupas, Tyler Held and Sean Garbarino each had four hits in the game to lead a Rockies offense that filled the bases all day. Bill Little drove in five runs on three hits, and John Wheatley drove in four runs on two hits.

Kenny Hoffman, Zach Scudder and Bryce Barrow each had hits for the Cubs.

Brunni tossed four innings, gave up two hits and one earned run in picking up the win. He struck out two and walked three.

Thompson strikes out nine, holds Orioles to two runs in Yankees win

Dan Thompson held the Orioles to one earned run over six innings while striking out nine to lead the Yankees past the Orioles, 11-2, Saturday at Kafer Park.

The Yankees jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Aided by two Orioles' errors and a hit batsman, the Yankees took advantage of a double by Cameron McSorley and a single by Noah Caroon.

The Yankees added three more in the third inning on walked to Dom Totten and Ryan Foreman, and singles by Micah Caroon, Jayson Melendez and Quentin Montemarano.

The Orioles came back with a run in the top of the fourth inning to make it 8-1. Three consecutive singles by Brandon Cherry, Chris Drake and Gabriel Brown accounted for the run.

The Yankees added three more in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to round out their scoring. The Orioles added a run in the sixth.

Foreman and Noah Caroon each went 2-for-3, Micah Caroon went 1-for-1 and McSorley went 1-for-2 to lead the Yankees offense.

Cherry and Brown and Brock Rouse went 1-for-2, and J.P. Whitford went 1-for-1 to lead the Orioles.
