Week 8 | 8.6.2023 | Originally scheduled for 4.30.2023

Braves score three in bottom of sixth to complete 10-9 comeback win over Marlins

A one-out error scored two runs to tie the score, and Michael Mauch scored on a wild pitch as the Braves completed a five-run comeback to beat the Marlins, 10-9, Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Marlins led 8-4 in the third inning with the bases loaded and one out. Dakotah Thomas came on in relief and struck out two to get out of the jam. Thomas then struck out 10 over the next four innings to earn the win.

Winning pitcher: Dakotah Thomas

Losing pitcher: Devin Hazell

Game MVPs: Dakotah Thomas pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up one hit, one unearned run, two walks and struck out 12. He also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Ian Trent went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Victor Medina went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Shawn Ryan went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.   

Noble Effort: Kelby Brooks went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Tomas Hernandez went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Michael Valentin went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI. 

Miscellaneous Notes: Both teams took advantage of the other team's miscues to score runs. The Marlins scored six runs in the third, taking advantage of three batters hit by pitches, a walk and five hits. The Braves scored the winning run on a wild pitch. The win gave the Braves third place in the final regular season standings.

Records: Braves 8-7, Marlins 2-12.

Red Sox end regular season in second place, earn first-round tournament bye

Josh Edwards held the Yankees to two earned runs over six innings, and Cletus Jackson went 4-for-4 as the Red Sox beat the Yankees, 12-3, and earned a first-round bye in the championship tournament.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Yankees never really got anything going against Edwards. He held the Yankees to five hits and two runs. He struck out five and walked four.   

Winning pitcher: Josh Edwards

Losing pitcher: Elijah Wakeford-Smith

Game MVPs: Cletus Jackson went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. The scrappy second baseman had a bunt single and three stolen bases. Joey Almy went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Spencer Hughes went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jacob Lawrence went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored   

Noble Effort: Jayson Melendez went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Teddy Cardenas went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Dom Totten went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. 

Miscellaneous Notes: With a win, the Yankees could have secured second place in the standings, but with the loss, they fall to fourth. They will play the Mets Sunday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the championship tournament. With the win, the Red Sox earn second place and a first-round bye.

Records: Red Sox 9-6, Yankees 7-8.

Ward tosses one-hit shutout with 7-0 win over Mets

Sam Ward allowed one hit over seven innings, and Tyler Held and Gabe Pierre combined to drive in five runs as the Rockies cruised to a 7-0 win over the Mets Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Sam Ward walked the first batter of the game, but settled down to walk only one more, while giving up only one hit and striking out 10.   

Winning pitcher: Sam Ward

Losing pitcher: Patrick Ventry

Game MVPs: Tyler Held went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Gave Pierre went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Sam Ward went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.   

Noble Effort: Patrick Ventry went 1-for-2. Ventry also pitched four innings and struck out nine. 

Miscellaneous Notes: The Rockies finish the regular season at the top of the standings at 14-1. They earn a first-round bye in the championship tournament. The Mets will play the Yankees at 4 p.m. Sunday in the first round of the tournament.

Records: Rockies 14-1, Mets 4-10.

Hughes slugs 3-run homer, Schoch holds Marlins to three hits in 12-2 win

The Red Sox jumped out to a 5-0, first-inning lead, and Spence Hughes hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to put the game on ice, as the Red Sox rolled to a 12-2 win over the Marlins.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Red Sox had only six hits, but capitalized on five walks and a few errors to score 12 runs.   

Winning pitcher: Adam Schoch

Losing pitcher: Matthew Williams

Game MVPs: Spencer Hughes went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored. Adam Schoch went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Schoch also pitched five innings, giving up four hits, one walk and one earned run, while striking out four. Joey Almy went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI. Cletus Jackson went 1-for-2 with a run scored.   

Noble Effort: Forrest Anderson went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Dario Carballo, Devin Hazell and Xavier Vergerano each went 1-for-2. 

Miscellaneous Notes: The game was originally scheduled for March 26 but was postponed by rain in the first inning after the Red Sox took a first inning lead. The game was continued from where it left off.

Records: Red Sox 8-6, Marlins 2-11.

Mets defense falters, Yankees score 13 in 6th inning on way to 15-11 win

Cruising with an 8-2 lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mets gave up 13 runs on a smattering of hits, walks and errors as the Yankees came back for the 15-11 win Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Jayson Melendez drove in five runs in the sixth inning with a three-run home run and a two-run double.   

Winning pitcher: Elijah Wakeford-Smith

Losing pitcher: Alex Calabrese

Game MVPs: Jayson Melendez went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Lance Deane went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Micah Caroon went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Ryan Foreman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.   

Noble Effort: Gage Bohmuller went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Heath Henson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Scott Shaffer went 2-for-4 with a run scored an an RBI. 

Miscellaneous Notes: Alex Calabrese pitched five innings and held the Yankees to two runs. But the sixth inning was a different story, as he gave us 13 runs with the aid of a few defensive lapses. The game was originally scheduled for March 26 but was postponed by rain.

Records: Yankees 7-7, Mets 4-9.

Amerson pitches complete game, strikes out seven as Rockies beat Braves, 12-5

Adam Amerson gave up one earned run over seven innings to lead the Rockies to a 12-5 win over the Braves Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The game was tight until the sixth inning, when the Rockies scored six runs on three hits, two hit batters, three walks and three errors.   

Winning pitcher: Adam Amerson

Losing pitcher: Armando Estrada

Game MVPs: Adam Amerson pitched seven innings, gave up 10 hits, two walks and one earned run, while striking out seven. Kyle Dupas went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. He left the game injured, and we wish him a speedy recovery. Tyler Held went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Bill Little went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.    

Noble Effort: Shawn Ryan went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Armando Estrada went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Travis Morton and Dakotah Thomas each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Thomas pitched five innings, giving up three hits, five walks and two earned runs. He struck out 11.

Miscellaneous Notes: The Braves led 5-4 through five innings. The Rockies took a lead with two runs in the fifth inning and put the game on ice with six runs in the seventh inning. The game was originally scheduled for March 26 but was postponed by rain.

Records: Rockies 13-1, Braves 7-7.

Morton's grand slam, Hernandez's 2-run homer power Braves, hand Rockies first loss

Travis Morton hit a fourth-inning grand slam, and Pablo Hernandez followed with a two-run home run three batters later to lead the Braves to a 10-2 win Sunday at Kafer Park, and hand the Rockies their first loss of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Braves scored six runs in the fourth inning, and Armando Estrada held the Rockies to four hits and two earned runs.  

Winning pitcher: Armando Estrada

Losing pitcher: Bill Little

Game MVPs: Travis Morton went 1-for-3 with a grand slam. Dakotah Thomas went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Pablo Hernandez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Shawn Ryan went 2-for-3 and Nathan Johnson went 2-for-4.   

Noble Effort: Kyle Dupas and Bill Little each hit solo home runs in the first inning. Dupas and Jordan Nobles went 2-for-4 ad 

Miscellaneous Notes: The game was originally scheduled for March 12 but was postponed by rain. I bet it was cooler in March than it was on Sunday, with temperatures approach 350, but only in right field. The same two teams play this Sunday, making up a game from Week 4.

Records: Rockies 12-1, Braves 7-6.

5-run sixth inning gives Yankees, 8-7, comeback win over Marlins

Jayson Melendez lead off the sixth inning with a solo home run, and Quentin Montemarano's bases-loaded, two-run single gave the Yankees an 8-7 comeback win Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Down by one run, the Yankees had to score or the game would be over. There would be no new inning since the game had reached the time limit. With two outs and the bases loaded, Quentin Montemarano singled in two scored to give the Yankees an 8-7 lead.

Winning pitcher: Elijah Wakeford-Smith

Losing pitcher: Matthew Williams

Game MVPs: Quentin Montemarano went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Jayson Melendez went 2-for-3 with a home run. Ryan Foreman went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.    

Noble Effort: Tomas Hernandez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Matthew Williams went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Bill Little, playing as a taxi player, went 1-for-1 with three RBIS and three runs scored. 

Miscellaneous Notes: The Marlins lead 3-0 after three innings and 7-3 after five innings. This game was originally scheduled for March 12, but was postponed by rain.

Mets score early, hold on for 5-3 win over Red Sox

Andrew Bilviy drove in two runs, and Patrick Ventry pitched five strong innings as the Mets outlasted the Red Sox, 5-3, Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: With two runs on and one out in the seventh inning, Matt Mar came on in relief to record a strikeout and a ground out to preserve the win. 

Winning pitcher: Patrick Ventry

Losing pitcher: Jacob Lawrence

Game MVPs: Andew Bilviy went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs in the first inning. Matt Mar went 1-for-4 with two runs scored an an RBI. Heath Henson went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Chris Flether, Alex Calabrese and Patrick Ventry each went 1-for-3. Ventry pitched five innings, gave up four hits and two earned runs. He walked four and struck out eight.

Noble Effort: Josef Lawrence went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lance Deane went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Ryan Lewis went 1-for-3.  Josef Lawrence pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.

Miscellaneous Notes: The game was originally scheduled for March 12, but was postponed by rain.

Garbarino no-hits Red Sox, Rockies remain undefeated with 7-0 win

Sean Garbarino tossed a seven-inning no-hitter, holding the Red Sox to three walks while striking out 15, as the Rockies beat the Red Sox, 7-0, Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Red Sox offense couldn't do anything. Garbarino used a fastball, curve and knuckleball to keep hitters off stride the whole game.  

Winning pitcher: Sean Garbarino

Losing pitcher: Josh Edwards

Game MVPs: Garbarino -- no need to repeat the stats. Kyle Dupas was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. He slugged a solo home run in the fifth inning. Gabe Pierre, Bill Little and Landon Vick each went 2-for-3.   

Noble Effort: Well, ... Adam Schoch pitched one inning of shutout relief.

Miscellaneous Notes: Temperatures were in the 90s, though on the field it felt like 150 and the water cooler was just out of reach.

Records: Rockies 11-0, Red Sox 7-5.

Yankees go up early, hold on for 7-6 win over Mets

Lance Deane went 4-for-4 and Dom Totten drove in three runs to help the Yankees take a 6-1 early lead and ultimately hold on for a 7-6 win Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Yankees entered the seventh inning with a 7-4 lead, but the Mets scored two and had the tying run on first with no outs. Elijah Wakeford-Smith got out of the jam and preserved the win.  

Winning pitcher: Teddy Cardenas

Losing pitcher: Matt Mar

Game MVPs: Lance Deane went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Dom Totten went 1-for-3 with three RBIs, and Jayson Melendez went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Teddy Cardenas pitched four innings, gave up five hits and one earned run.   

Noble Effort: Heath Henson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Matt Mar went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Patrick Ventry and Mike Parziale went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kyle ONeal pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up two hits and one unearned run.

Miscellaneous Notes: The Mets defense had five errors that extended innings or led to runs.

10-run fourth inning leads Braves to win over Marlins

The Braves sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth inning, and with only three hits they scored 10 runs on their way to routing the Marlins, 12-6, Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Marlins pitching suddenly collapsed in the fourth inning, and their defense did them no favors. Two errors, three hit batsmen and three walks did a lot of damage.

Game MVPs: Nathan Johnson went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. Shawn Ryan went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Dakotah Thomas went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Armando Estrada pitched five innings, gave up two hits, four walks and one earned run. He struck out 12.   

Noble Effort: Doug Henderson pitched 2 2/3 innings, gave up two hits and one earned run. He also went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Justin Honda went 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Kelby Brooks went 1-for-3.

Miscellaneous Notes: Smile all you want, Armando, but you aint throwin' like you did to begin the season. :)

Totten, Melendez lead Yankees past Braves

Dom Totten drove in three runs and Jayson Melendez held the Braves to five hits over seven innings as the Yankees beat the Braves 5-3 Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Yankees scored three runs in the fifth inning on three walks and three hits to take a commanding 5-0 lead.  

Winning pitcher: Jayson Melendez

Losing pitcher: Armando Estrada

Game MVPs: Dom Totten went 1-for-2 with three RBIs, and Jayson Melendez pitched seven innings, gave up five hits, three earned runs and no walks. He struck out five. Jack Wu went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Quentin Montemarano went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.   

Noble Effort: Armando Estrada pitched four innings, gave up two hits, two runs and three walks. He struck out 10.  Estrada went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Travis Morton went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Pablo Hernandez went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Miscellaneous Notes: Melendez had a shutout going into the sixth inning, before the Braves scored three runs in a comeback attempt. Dakotah Thomas struck out three of the four batters he faced in relief.

Thompson drives in three, Ward holds Marlins' offense in check as Rockies remain unbeaten

Tiquan Thompson's two-run double in the sixth inning gave the Rockies the cushion they would need to hold off the Marlins, 6-4, Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Sam Ward gave up four hits and two runs over sixth innings, keeping the Marlins's offense in check.

Game MVPs: Tiquan Thompson went 2-fir-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Kyle Dupas went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Sam Ward went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Brandon Bowden went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Avery Bruni went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Noble Effort: Dario Carballo went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Devin Hazell went 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Nathan Voit went 1-for-2. Adrian Perez, Kelby Brooks and Justin Honda each went 1-for-3.

Miscellaneous Notes: Sam Ward and Bill Little combined to strike out 15 batters. The Rockies left 11 runners on base.

Mets' defense gives up seven runs as Red Sox win, 8-6

Four Mets fielding errors lead to seven of the Red Sox's eight runs as the Red Sox took a huge 8-1 lead and held on for an 8-6 win Sunday night at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Defense. The Mets made four crucial errors that cost seven runs and the Red Sox made one error that made little difference in the game.  

Winning pitcher: Adam Schoch

Losing pitcher: Kyle ONeal

Game MVPs: Ryan Lewis went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Adam Schoch, Kenny Hoffman and Josh Edwards each went 1-for-3. Edwards also pitched two innings of shutout relief, giving up one hit while striking out two.

Noble Effort: Kyle ONeal pitched seven innings, giving up five hits, one earned run and six walks. He struck out 13. ONeal also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. John Tyer went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Alex Calabrese went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Heath Henson went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Colin Bettner went 1-for-3.

Miscellaneous Notes: It was friggin hot out there Sunday.

Totten's seventh-inning home run leads Yankees to win over Red Sox

Dom Totten hit a two-run homer with the scored tied in the top of the seventh inning to lead the Yankees to an 8-5 win over the Red Sox Sunday night at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Both teams traded runs through five innings before Dom Totten hit a two-run homer run in the top of the seventh to give the Yankees a 7-5 lead. The Yankees tacked on one more run in the inning.  

Winning pitcher: Shane Hardison

Losing pitcher: Adam Schoch

Game MVPs: Dom Totten went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Quentin Montemarano went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Micah Caroon went 1-fo-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Ryan Foreman went 2-for-4 with an RBI.  

Noble Effort: Jacob Lawrence went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Joey Almy went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Ryan Lewis went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Miscellaneous Notes: Shane Hardison pitched two scoreless innings, allowing no hits and two walks, while striking out four for the Yankees.  The Yankees left 10 runners on base, compared to five for the Red Sox. Dom Totten has three home runs in his last two games.

Williams' 3-run homer leads Marlins past Braves, 5-3

Matthew Williams hit a three-run homer in the first inning to give the Marlins a 4-3 lead -- a lead that they would never relinquish, winning 5-3 Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: After scoring one run in the first inning, two Marlins batters reached on errors. Williams then clubbed his third home run of the season, scoring three runs -- all unearned. 

Winning pitcher: Nathan Voit

Losing pitcher: Michael Mauch

Game MVPs: Matthew Williams went 1-for-1 with three RBIs and a run scored. Tomas Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Doug Henderson and Devin Hazel combined to pitch five scoreless innings of relief.  

Noble Effort: Travis Morton went 1-for-3 with a run scored, and Doug Amerson went 1-for-3. Nathan Johnson pitched two shutout innings of relieve. Dakotah Thomas struck out four batters in two innings of relief.

Miscellaneous Notes: Of the eight runs scored in the game by both teams, only one run was earned. The Braves didn't score and left the bases loaded in the sixth inning.

Garbarino holds Mets to five hit, two unearned runs as Rockies win, 6-2

Sean Garbarino pitched a complete game and held the Mets to two unearned runs, and Brandon Bowden hit a solo home run as the Rockies stayed undefeated with a 6-2 win over the Mets Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, but Brandon Bowden broke the tie with a solo home run in the second inning. 

Winning pitcher: Sean Garbarino

Losing pitcher: Kyle ONeal

Game MVPs: Sean Garbarino pitched seven innings, gave up five hits, two runs and no walks while striking out five. Brandon Bowden went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Sam Ward went 2-for-4 with a run scored.   

Noble Effort: Matt Mar went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Justin Ferrante went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Andrew Bilviy went 2-for-3.

Miscellaneous Notes: Kyle ONeal struck out eight batters in seven innings.

Held, Nobles slug 3-run homers to lead first-place Rockies past Yankees, 9-8

Tyler Held and Jordan Nobles each hit three-run homers, and Bill Little hit a solo home run as the Rockies beat the Yankees, 9-8, Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Tyler Held hit a three-run home run in the first inning, and Jordan Nobles hit a three-run home run in the second inning. Bill Little pitched a complete game and held the Yankees to four earned runs, but needed 141 pitches to do it. 

Winning pitcher: Bill Little

Losing pitcher: Micah Caroon

Game MVPs: Jordan Nobles went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Tyler Held went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Bill Little went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Brandon Bowden went a wind-aided 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.  

Noble Effort: Dom Totten went 2-for-3 with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored. Micah Caroon went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Ryan Foreman went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Miscellaneous Notes: Man, was it windy. Line drives found their way through, but a high hit ball was a mystery to the outfielders

Braves collapse, blow 9-run lead, fall to Red Sox, 11-10, in extra innings

Leading 9-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the wheels came off for the Braves. Five walks, four hits and two errors later, the game was tied at 9. Each team added a run in the seventh inning to push it to extra innings, where Adam Schoch's bloop single scored Jacob Lawrence for the walk-off win.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Red Sox didn't give up and rallied in the sixth inning for nine runs. Prior to the sixth inning, Armando Estrada held the Red Sox to one hit. Shawn Ryan relieved Estrada and had trouble finding the plate, walking six batters in two innings. Two key Braves' errors played a big role in the Red Sox comeback.

Game MVPs: Kenny Hoffman went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Johnny Price went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Neil Coffield went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.  

Noble Effort: Pablo Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. Armando Estrada went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. He also threw five shutout innings, giving up one hit and no runs, but walked seven. Shawn Ryan, Alberto Sosa and Ben Meinjohans each went 2-for-4.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: Kyle ONeal's two-run single in the fourth inning keyed a five-run offensive explosion that gave the Mets a 10-1 lead after four innings.

Game MVPs: Matt Mar went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored. He pitched two innings, giving up no hits, a walk and one run, while striking out two. The expected showdown of two of the league's top pitchers did not go as expected as the Rockies scored early and often to beat the Braves, 13-3, Sunday at Kafer Park.

HIGHLIGHTS

Key to the win: The Rockies only had eight hits, but they paired them with walks to score 13 runs, which was more than enough for Adam Amerson, who pitched a complete game, giving up four hits, two walks and two earned runs while striking out 11.

Losing pitcher: Dakotah Thomas

Game MVPs: Amerson struck out 11 Braves and now leads the league in strikeouts with 54. He also went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Bill Little went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sam Ward went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Key to the win: The Red Sox used three walks, two hit by pitches, an error and one hit to score six runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead.

Game MVPs: Colby Cohrs went 1-for-1 with two walks and a run scored. Adam Schoch struck out 10 and walk none in giving up four earned runs over seven innings. Justin Ferrante went 2-for-3 and went 2-for-3 with an RBI.  

Noble Effort: Danny Nunez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Mike Valentin went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Tomas Hernandez Jr. went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Elijah Wakeford-Smith hit a three-run homer in the second inning and gave up five hits and one earned run as the Yankees pounded the Mets, 12-1, Sunday at Kafer Park.

Key to the win: Wakeford-Smith hit a three-run homer and Shane Hardison hit a two-run homer to lead a 13-hit Yankees attack.

Key to the win: The Braves took advantage of two hits and two errors in the sixth inning to score four runs to tie the game.

Bill Little hit a three-run homer in the first inning and then combined with Sam Ward to hold the Red Sox to two hits as the Rockies shutout the Red Sox, 9-0, Sunday night at Kafer Park.

Key to the win: Same Ward tossed four innings of one-hit ball and Bill Little pitched three innings of one-hit relief to hold the Red Sox scoreless.

Key to the win: The Rockies scored seven runs in the first inning, but it was the two-run home run in the second inning that told the tale. Little scorched a home run to straight-away center field  to put the Rockies up 9-0. You didn't have to look at the home run -- you could tell by the sound that it was gone off the bat.

The Yankees loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with no outs, but Adam Schoch came on in relief to strike out two and get the final batter to ground out to secure a shakey 5-4 win.

Key to the win: Schoch started the game but returned in the seventh inning. With no outs and the Red Sox leading by two, he struck out two batters. The Yankees scored a run on an error, but then Schoch got the final batter to ground out for the win.

Ward, Little home; Amerson strikes out 12 as Rockies top Yankees, 7-2

Sam Ward led off the game with an opposite-field home run, and Bill Little hit a two-run homer two batters later to lead the Rockies to a 7-2 win over the Yankees.

Red Sox top Braves, 12-8

The Red Sox scored six runs in the first inning and held off a late rally to beat the Braves, 12-8, Sunday at Kafer Park.

Key to the win: The Red Sox jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first, taking advantage of seven walks.
